cady Hill Studio
This one-bedroom house near Stowe was a collaboration between Boreal Design and Construction, Rudy Polwin Architects, and the Yestermorrow Design/Build School. It is a timberframe/strawbale hybrid that utilizes traditional methods of construction to achieve exceptional levels of performance and comfort. The materials speak to the building’s users as they move through the space. It’s difficult not to reach out and touch the walls and the timbers, to feel the cool coarseness the plaster and the smooth warmth of the pine, to inspect the tool marks in the timbers. It’s a tactile and an intriguing place, warm and rough and solid.
